MARC childcare reopens

Park City Municipal Corporation

One of the last businesses in town to reopen following the March 2020 shutdown is childcare at the MARC.

As with nearly all business, the Park City Municipal Athletic Recreation Center or MARC closed a year ago March. It reopened for individual workouts, tennis, and pickleball on May 11th.

Group classes resumed later this year. But childcare wasn’t reopened until now. Recreation Division Manager Jessica Moran says there were a couple of reasons, including the concern of the pandemic, especially on young children and staffing...

“One, because of staffing and, you know,” Moran said, “everyone's got staffing concerns right now but two, because with the vaccinations and everything, you know, the youngest kids and we take ages one to six, and our childcare, you know, are really the ones you know that haven't been able to get vaccinated and that kind of thing, so I think the concerns were still there a little bit.”

The hours for childcare aren’t back to their pre-pandemic levels, but Moran says they could be if more staff is hired.

“It's based a lot on the schedules of those that we've been able to find, you know, for staff,” Moran said.

Right now, childcare service is available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Last year, Moran says childcare was offered until 2 in the afternoon Monday through Friday and even for a few hours on the weekend.

The MARC has current job openings for childcare workers and the front desk. Childcare workers are paid up to $14 an hour based on qualifications. The front desk position starts at $10 an hour and goes up to $13.85.
