Christian Center ramps up for fall projects

Christian Center of Park City

Colder weather is arriving, as well as thoughts about the holidays.    That means the Christian Center of Park City will be busy with its coat drive, the upcoming turkey drive, and other annual events.

Rob Harter, the Executive Director of the Christian Center, said with their coat drive, Operation Hope, they’re aiming to help out 1000 kids.

He told KPCW they’re asking locals to drop off new or gently-used coats at the center, located at 1283 Deer Valley Drive, at the corner of Deer Valley and Bonanza Drive.

Harter said people can make donations between now and November 1st at the center, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.    The donations can be made at the back of the Christian Center, and Harter said be sure to specify which items are for the coat drive.

Coming up later, the Christian Center will be dispensing turkeys from its food pantries.    Harter said the Turkey Drive is happening in conjunction with the Philanthropic Foundation of the Park City Board of Realtors, spearheaded by Deb Hartley, and is the largest in the state.

“The generosity of Park City people, people in Summit County and Wasatch County, cause this extends in Heber as well, of course.  We will have so many turkeys that we’ll be able to provide, not just for us, and our two food pantries in Heber and Park City, but there’ll be enough turkeys to spread it to many other food pantries throughout the state.”

People can donate turkeys by working through the realtors and the Christian Center.

“You can always just donate a turkey, but the way they’ve set it up is they work with The Market in town.  And if you have money, essentially, we’ve already kinda pre-oredered a number of turkeys.   And as the day gets closer, we’re able to purchase more, but Deb and the Park City Board of Realtors has worked it out where if you donate to them initially, then they will go purchase the turkeys, and then we go pick em up as the food pantry.  And so that seems to be the best way to work, as opposed to buying turkeys and bringing them, they encourage you to actually purchase through them and then they will go purchase the turkeys at The Market.”

Finally, the Christian Center is sponsoring the Enneagram Seminar on Thursday, from 6:30 to 8.   Harter said this is the third year they’re offering this opportunity

“Mary Wright is on staff with us, and she’s really become an expert in this Enneagram inventory, this personality inventory.   And this’ll be another basically a 101 introduction.    So if you’ve heard about it, you’re curious about it.  Maybe people at your work or your family, someone has done it.   We’re gonna offer that again,  It’ll be next Thursday night.   And it’ll be just a fun event to learn a little bit more about yourself, your personality, what makes you tick, and then what makes those people around you tick.  So it’s just an ability, if you will, to understand people better, and understand yourself better.”

There is a $20 charge for the event, which can be attended on Zoom or live.    Visit ccofpc.org  and go to their event calendar for more information.
