Annual cleanup set for popular park

Snyderville Basin Recreation District

Recreation District Director Dana Jones told KPCW that locals are invited to drop by the Run-A-Muk Park, located near the Olympic Parkway, and help with cleanup.

She said the event is scheduled for a couple of Thursdays, October 28th and November 4th and Saturday November 13th, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Jones said that Run-A-Muk is their largest, most popular park and most popular trailhead. Not only that, she said it is the largest fenced dog park in the United States.

On a related topic, the district has tried in recent years to ease the congestion of users flocking to the basin trailheads. Jones said they’re seeing lesser numbers than in past years, in part because they deployed a patrol officer.

“And he is really making a lot of contacts.  He’s talking to a lot of people.  We’re trying to really disperse that use to other trailheads that might not be as busy as some of the more popular ones.  There is the continuing problems in the neighborhoods with—we hear complaints of speeding cars and things like that.  Not a lot that Basin Rec can do about that.  All we can do is really kind of inform the people, kinda manage our trailheads.    The parking at the trailheads is getting better now that we have the patrol out there who can actually write citations if people are parking illegally.  But even more than that, we want to let people know what is legal, what they can do, and where they should be going if a trail’s full.  And I think that’s been fairly successful.”
