According to Save People Save Wildlife member Loreli Combs, their members have been working behind the scenes with UDOT - meeting in person at the Region 2 headquarters in Salt Lake City since September 3rd. Combs says they were successful getting the driver feedback signs – that show how fast a car is going – returned earlier this month in front of the McPolin Barn in both directions.
And she says they just received word from UDOT that both of the variable message boards will be returned to 224 as soon as this week. These signs warn drivers of the wildlife crossing – in particular the elk herd that makes its way between the McPolin farm and across the highway to Round Valley every day – and to slow down.
This follows SPSW’s request last week to the Summit County Council to intervene and work withy UDOT to lower the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph from Kimball Junction to the Canyons Resort intersection, making it a consistent 45 mph speed limit between Interstate 80 and Meadows Drive.
