If approved by state regulators, the Utah Renewable Communities program would offer eligible customers a new clean energy option to support finding new clean energy sources.
Initially, residents would pay $3 to $4 more per month to help acquire the energy sources. The power company said costs could be adjusted as more clean energy resources are added.
If approved and adopted by the participating communities later this year, customers next year would receive two opt-out notices before being enrolled in the program.
Customers will be able to opt out through the Rocky Mountain Power website, by calling customer service or by mail.
Coalville, Francis, Oakley, Park City and Summit County are among the 19 communities partnering with Rocky Mountain Power in this effort.
