Parkites can learn about a variety of ongoing City Hall projects, including the general plan and a state Route 248 transportation study, at a community gathering Tuesday.

Park City Municipal routinely holds public open houses twice a year, according to community engagement manager Linda Jager.

“The idea is to gather all our departments that have projects and initiatives to share with the community, into one event to make it really easy for our community members to come out and find out what’s going on – sort of a one-stop shop,” Jager said.

One of the major projects being presented at Tuesday’s open house is the general plan, which is a blueprint for future growth.

Park City Planning Director Rebecca Ward said they are now in the final phase of public engagement.

“We’ve heard that this is an incredible place to live, and there are a lot of things that we need to protect and preserve and also that we need to proactively address some of the challenges,” Ward said. “It was really clear from the statistically valid survey that 71% of respondents feel that traffic is the number one thing that we need to address.”

Another key project residents will hear about is the ongoing transportation study for state Route 248.

Park City Senior Transportation Planner Conor Campobasso said the city is considering several solutions for S.R. 248, including bus rapid transit and light rail.

“We’ve done a bunch of improvements between the bus running shoulder [lane], some of the pedestrian tunnels along the corridor, enhanced stops, the new service going out to Richardson Flat,” Campobasso said. “So there’s been a lot going on, but I think this is really our opportunity to do something special there.”

City staff will also be on hand to talk about this summer’s planned construction on Homestake Road and the renovation of the MARC’s aquatic facilities.

Kids are invited to bring their bikes for a safety check with local trail rangers.

The open house is scheduled to run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the third floor of the Park City Library.
