Development near Browns Canyon is bringing in more traffic to the area triggering the installation of a stoplight on S.R. 248.
248 at Browns Canyon will see a number of changes in the upcoming months. Along with a stoplight, the Utah Department of Transportation is installing advanced warning signals, which will flash to remind drivers to slow down. Drivers can also expect a reduction in speed to 55 miles per hour for the leg of the road currently set at 65.
The intersection is between Highway 40 and the Jordanelle.
Courney Samuels with UDOT said the project has been in the works since development began in the area; UDOT was just waiting until there were enough cars driving through to justify the light.
"With some of the new developments there ... I believe there's a hotel, there's a hockey rink and some other housing developments there," he said. "That's happened in the last two years that those numbers were able to warrant. So it was just a matter of time to be able to have those numbers."
He said UDOT is working on utilities for the signal now, and the department expects the light to be up and running by July or August.
