A fatal crash on US 40 in Wasatch County killed one motorist and sent another to the hospital Thursday evening.
According to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol, at 5pm Thursday a 2007 Subaru Impreza was traveling eastbound on US 40 near milepost 15 in Heber City before colliding head-on with an oncoming Chevy truck. The driver of the Subaru was killed and the other driver was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
For unknown reasons at this time, the Subaru veered left across the center turn lane and into the westbound travel lanes before striking the truck.
The driver of the Subaru has been identified as a 20 year old male, Michael Rivera-Vasquez. The Highway Patrol said he sustained fatal injuries on impact.
The driver of the Silverado sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. All lanes of US 40 in the area were shut down for approximately 2 hours Thursday evening to investigate the accident. All lanes of the highway have since reopened.
The crash comes just days after a fiery accident claimed the lives of three Heber residents -- two teenage girls and another woman -- near Deer Creek Reservoir. The cause of that accident is also currently under investigation.
