Leadership Changes At Vail Resort Brings Back Mike Goar

There are big leadership changes afoot at Vail Resorts. KPCW’s Leslie Thatcher reports the changes include the departure of Park City Mountain Chief Operating Officer Bill Rock and the return of Mike Goar who managed Canyons Resort before it merged with Park City.

Vail Resorts made the announcement in a press release Friday. With the retirement of a long time executive vice president at the end of the year, the company will create three new regional leadership roles in order to support the company’s growing global portfolio. Bill Rock who has served as Chief Operating Officer of Park City since 2015 will relocate to the company’s headquarters in Broomfield Colorado and will oversee the company’s mountain resorts in Colorado and Utah. Rock joined Vail Resorts in 2012 as COO of Northstar California Resorts and went on to oversee operations at both Heavenly and Kirkwood before making the move to Park City in 2015 to operate Park City and the Canyons resorts when the two merged.

Mike Goar will return to Park City to take over Rock’s position. Goar served as general manager of Canyons Resort from 2007 to 2015, when he helped lead through the acquisition of Park City in 2013. In 2015 he was transferred to  Keystone for a couple of years before taking over as Chief Operating Officer of Heavenly with oversight of both Northstar and Kirkwood resorts.

Geoff Bucheister, a former Park City resident who had worked for Powdr Corp. for 15 years as Director of Finance joined Vail Resorts in 2015 during the acquisition of Park City. He went on to lead three Vail owned resorts in the Midwest before becoming General Manager of Keystone in 2017. He has been named as Chief Operating Officer of Whistler Blackcomb.
