Park City's MARC Is Open, With Protocols

PC MARC-Park City Municipal

After six weeks of inactivity, Park City’s athletic facility, The MARC, re-opened on Monday.

The hours for the MARC are Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The facility’s Recreation Coordinator, Cole Johnston, said they have to operate within the group-size limit of 20 people.

“So what that looks like for us is, with our tennis courts and gymnasium on our lower floor, we’re allowed 20 people there, 20 people in our lobby and main floor and then 20 people upstairs.  And obviously we’re encouraging social distancing in gymnasiums when you’re exerting.”

They still welcome patrons, but in a different way.

“But we are trying to encourage people to come in and get their work-out in and then not linger and then get out so we can allow more people to come in after that.”

Johnston said that many of the staff are working remotely, or coming in and out of the facility.

The users for the indoor tennis courts count toward the 20-person calculation.   But that doesn’t apply to the outside courts.

“And then we are operating fully with lessons and different things like that.  We haven’t started operating our programs quite yet, as far as tennis goes, but I know that a few of our pros have begun giving lessons.  And our courts are open for booking online.”

Finally, Johnston said they’re planning tentatively to open the lap pool by May 25th.

“Right now, currently our locker rooms and showers are closed, based on the health order.   And we do need to have acceptable showers in order to open our pool.  So we’re trying to work that situation now.  And then currently the current health order states that our leisure pool is to remain closed.”
