COVID-19 trends seen over the past week continued on Saturday as Utah experiences a plateau in new cases.
After a precipitous drop in COVID-19 case counts after the new year and the introduction of vaccines, Utah has begun to plateau. Current trends echo what was experienced mid-summer of 2020, with around 500 new cases per day.
The Utah Department of Health reported 467 new cases on Saturday, bringing the statewide rolling seven-day average for positive cases to 469. The average was just over 500 cases per day one week ago.
Rolling averages for positive tests have also remained relatively flat over the past couple of weeks. On Saturday, the people-over-people average was 8.1% and the tests-over-tests average was 4.1%. Both averages have not changed by more than a percentage point since early March.
Locally, Wasatch County reported five new cases. As of this report, Summit County had not updated their data for Saturday. Trends in both counties have roughly mirrored those at the state level in March.
Two additional COVID-19 deaths were reported by the Health Department on Saturday, bringing the statewide death toll from the disease to 2,060. Neither of the deaths were from either Summit or Wasatch Counties.
Vaccinations continued statewide with over 25,000 doses administered. Over 1.1 million doses of the vaccine have been administered statewide.
