Saturday COVID-19 Update: Summit County Reports 24 New Cases, Wasatch 7 Continuing Statewide Drop

The Utah Department of Health reported that statewide COVID-19 numbers continued to drop on Saturday. Summit County saw some numbers flatten and Wasatch County trends declined as well.

Saturday’s report by the Utah Department of Health showed statewide trends of declining COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continuing.

With 943 new cases statewide, the seven-day average for new cases has dropped below 1,000 to 987 for the first time since October 2nd of last year.

The statewide seven-day test over test average for the percentage of positive tests declined as well and is now at 6.4%.

Summit County recorded 24 new cases on Saturday to Wasatch County’s 7. After a steep decline in recent weeks, Summit County’s averages flattened out this week.

Statewide, there are currently 298 people in the hospital with COVID-19, down 14 from Friday. Statewide COVID-19 referral center ICUs are now 84.2% full. Although hospitalizations have fallen overall, ICU capacity has remained high since the new year.

The Health Department reported five more COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, bringing the statewide death toll to 1,790. None of Saturday’s deaths were from either Summit or Wasatch County.

As of Saturday, over 512,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the state.
