Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing on I-80 near Jeremy Ranch

Mark Maziarz Photography

A small plane made an emergency landing on I-80 near Jeremy Ranch Saturday night.  No one was injured.

According to Agent Colton Freckleton with the Utah Department of Public Safety, the plane landed in the east bound lanes near mile marker 142 around 6:15pm. Two people were in the plane. They managed to push the aircraft to the shoulder of the road and out of traffic after landing on the highway.

Freckleton doesn't know why the plane had to make an emergency landing. According to the website flightradar24.com, which tracks flights around the world, the plane had flown from Provo to Idaho Falls earlier in the day, then left Idaho Falls and was headed south into Utah where it went off the radar close to Summit County.  The plane is identified as a Cessna 172K Skyhawk and is 51 years old.

KPCW will provide more details on this story as they become available.
