Summit County Democratic Delegates Vote For County Council Seats A & C

Summit County Democrats

Despite COVID event cancellations, it’s election season and politics takes no vacation.  The Summit County Democrats will hold a virtual county convention with delegates making their selections on Thursday. As we’ve reported, the Wasatch and Summit County Republican parties, along with the Wasatch Democratic party cancelled county conventions this year and extended their 2018 delegates to serve another two years until 2022.

April, in an election year, would normally be a time where political parties gather at conventions to identify delegates, listen to speeches and to select a favorite candidate who would go on to run in the general election. With all the large gatherings being cancelled, the Summit County Democratic party has come up with a plan to eliminate the need for delegates to leave their homes allowing them to vote through a system called Election Buddy.

The 84 delegates who were elected last week, through a call-in voting system, will receive a link to an online ballot. Delegates will have until 8 P.M. to vote for county council seats A and C which are contested, and the uncontested county races for treasurer, assessor and recorder. Summit County Democratic Party Chair Merideth Reed asks delegates to check spam and junk folders if they haven’t received the link to their individual ballot by noon on Thursday. Please email info@scdems.org if you don't receive it as expected on Thursday April 2nd.

State delegates will participate in the Utah State Democratic Party State Convention on April 25th, voting for state-wide and multi-county offices including Congress, Governor, Attorney General, State House, State Senate, etc), through a method which will be determined by the Utah Democratic Party. This year all state party conventions will be done remotely.

The Summit County Democrats can (virtually) send 86 delegates to the state convention. During the caucus last month, people checked a box indicating their interest in being a state delegate. They still need 20 more to fill all the allotted positions.

County candidate profiles and videos can be found on scdems.org/our-2020-candidates/
