Winter Welcome Organizers Hope To Be In Person Next Month

Youth Sports Alliance

The Jan's Winter Welcome will hold its annual fundraiser to support youth winter sports in Park City next month. The Youth Sports Alliance says while the virtual fundraiser was successful last year, organizers hope to hold this year’s event in person.

The Jan's Winter Welcome fundraises for more than 2,800 kids every year. It’s happening this year on Saturday, October 23.

The kids are participants in competitive sports and after-school programs through the Youth Sports Alliance, such as Get Out & Play and ACTiV8.

As of now, the plan is to gather as many as 400 members of the community and across the country at the Stein Erikson Lodge, including some in the snow sports industry.

Youth Sports Alliance Executive Director Emily Fisher said that’s the plan under current COVID-19 guidelines, but organizers will change it if necessary.

“We’ve all learned to pivot and figure out how to do things differently,” Fisher said. “So, we have a plan A, which is running the event as usual, that we hope we’ll be able to do, and then we have a plan B and C and D and E, so we’ll see how it goes.”

A normal year brings in about $400,000, and Fisher says the Alliance was able to meet its target last year despite having to hold the fundraiser virtually.

Fundraising comes from ticket sales and silent and live auctions. This year, one lucky ticketholder for an opportunity drawing will get an all-inclusive trip to Santa Brbara wine country.

“What we do every year, is we offer that opportunity-drawing item, and then the seven member clubs and the Youth Sports Alliance sell those tickets, and those ticket sales then go back to those clubs at 100%, so if you want to support a specific club, a specific athlete, you can do that online, just YSAparkcity.org. You can find those opportunity drawing tickets,” Fisher said.
