Sean Higgins

After Tuesday's primary election in Park City for mayor and city council, Nann Worel led in the contest for mayor, and political newcomers Tana Toly and Jeremy Rubell were the top vote-getters among city council candidates.

Unofficial vote totals were released by the Summit County Clerk’s office shortly before 8:30 Tuesday night. The top two candidates for mayor and the top four city council candidates will move on to the general election on November 2nd.

City Councilor Nann Worel received 1,166 votes in the race for mayor -- nearly double the number of votes incumbent Mayor Andy Beerman received with 594. Investor and political newcomer David Dobkin received 297.

In the race for city council, local business owner Tana Toly led the field with 1,115 votes, followed closely by business consultant Jeremy Rubell with 1,052 votes. Incumbent Councilor Tim Henney received 682 votes, and high school basketball coach Thomas C. Purcell received 268 votes.

Just shy of fourth place among city council candidates was Park City Heights resident and local business owner John Greenfield with 243 votes. Nonprofit worker Daniel Lewis received 125 votes, service industry worker Jamison Brandi received 108, and entrepreneur Michael Franchek 40.

Votes counted through Tuesday night represent about 35 % of registered voters in Park City, which is a typical level of turnout in a primary election.

According to the Summit County Clerk’s office, Tuesday’s results include ballots cast before election day and some votes deposited in ballot drop boxes early Tuesday. Ballots received later on Tuesday will be counted in the coming days. Park City is scheduled to certify the election on August 19th.
