I have mentioned on the show that I am an avid jazz guitar fan. I have many, many guitarists in my library. My show focused on contemporary players, but most of them were influenced by great players of the past. Here are a few of them – Click on their names for more information
- Charlie Christian: 1916-1942, probably the first person to bring the guitar front and center in big bands
- Herb Ellis: 1921-2010
- Tal Farlow: 1921-1998, known as the "Octopus" due to his huge hands
- Wes Montgomery: 1923-1968, Best known for his "octaves." Probably the biggest influence on many
- Charlie Byrd: 1925-1999
- Joe Pass: 1929-1994
- And then there was Emily Remler (1957-1990). She was so very talented and respected by a few of the above. But led a tragic life and death. Here is a link to a December 8, 2020 JazzTimes article by Michael West for more details.
