Crews Gain Ground On Eastern Utah Wildfire

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Officials say crews are hemming in a wildfire north of Vernal and have the blaze about 75% contained.

Fire officials said Wednesday morning that crews are working to secure the rest of the perimeter of the 5-square-mile Taylor Mountain Road Fire.

The fire burned a home and two summer cabins after it broke out Saturday but by Wednesday it was smoldering and creeping through gas, brush and trees.

Fire spokeswoman Kelsey Birchell says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Birchell says Steinaker State Park has been reopened after it had been closed for fire crews to use as a staging area.

No road closures or evacuations are in place.
