Summit County Fair Ready To Show Off New Improvements

Summit County Fair

The Summit County Fair is back, August 4th to the 11th--with the usual attractions and showing off an improved fairground to boot.

Fair director Travis English said the event kicks off on Saturday the 4th with the very popular Demolition Derby, which has been sold out for a few weeks now.

The county has completed the first phase of improvements to the fairgrounds at Coalville City Park, with $5 million of upgrades, including the new Ledges Events Center.

"Thursday we'll be opening the doors. We'll be loading things into the new building, we have $1 million worth of new livestock facilities, and $4 million went into our new event center at the fairgrounds. The event center is about 1,100 square feet it is beautiful. It will host our exhibits and fine arts for the fair itself. As well as be the new spot to pick up your tickets as well. It's air conditioned, definitely a lot nicer than quonset huts it's taken over that whole block."

Along with the opening events, there's also a transit link to the west side of the county.

"There will be live music, the beer, wine and spirits garden will be open. We'll be offering free transportation from the Kimball Junction Transit Center to the fair itself."

The shuttles are run every 45 minutes. English said after a hiatus on Sunday and Monday, the Fair starts up again on Tuesday.

"So we are opening with the archery and family fun horse event. It's an open horse show, really geared towards families"

He detailed the rest of the schedule starting from Wednesday.

"The Youth Pet fest sponsored by Summit County Animal Control is on Wednesday August 8th. We'll also be having the adult competition for the archery. The carnival rides will open on Wednesday the 8th as well, and the little buckaroo rodeo. So that is the pint-sized version of rodeo there where kids are jumping on the sheep. Thursday night we'll have the little buckaroo rodeo timed events. Friday, we have Summit County senior day. So, seniors from across the county can sign up at their local centers to go to that, for a free luncheon and entertainment. We'll have music, entertainment all day the beer, wine and spirits garden will be open. free kid's activities, carnival rides, and a PRCA pro rodeo. Saturday we've got breakfast, we've got the tour de sunrise bike ride, main street parade, the grand opening of the Ledges Event Center. Jr Livestock sale and PRCA rodeo that night as well."

English said that there are still tickets available for the two nights of the rodeo, August 10th and 11th, but it's expected they will sell out too. Tickets range from $5 to $13. For more information visit summitcountyfair.org
