Summit County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Skyler Talbot said High Valley Transit discovered someone had broken the building’s front windows around 1:30 a.m. May 18.
“Our deputies were able to collect some video surveillance from inside the building, had a pretty good picture and video of the individual inside the building,” Talbot said.
Deputies found a person matching the suspect’s description near the Chevron across the street at about 7 p.m.
Arresting deputies say he admitted breaking the windows and resisted when they tried to arrest him.
Talbot said the 22-year-old pulled out a pocket knife and deputies immediately disarmed him.
“Our deputies are trained. When any threat like this is displayed, they act quickly, and they did a fantastic job in this case,” he said.
Using non-lethal tactics, one deputy secured the man’s arms, another his legs and a third put him in handcuffs.
The Uinta County, Wyoming, man was booked into the Summit County Jail with a $500 bail.
Nothing was reported stolen and deputies say it’s unclear why the man wanted to get inside.
He’s accused of causing up to $1,500 in damages to the transit center. Charges had not been filed as of May 19.
Separately, a deputy involved in the arrest suffered an unrelated medical emergency at the scene and has since been released from the hospital.
