Locals can get a peek into that future Wednesday at the Wasatch County Council meeting when MIDA liaison Richard Breitenbeker shares how much construction the Jordanelle Basin may soon see.
According to meeting materials, of roughly 6,200 units planned in and around East Village, about a quarter are already constructed.
By the time the East Village and Skyridge MIDA projects are complete, the documents state they will have added nearly 1,300 single-family homes, over 3,200 condos and townhomes, more than 1,300 hotel rooms and over 300 condos designated for nightly rentals.
That includes the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley. MIDA, which has an appointed, not elected, state board, was originally created to serve veterans and members of the military. So, the Grand Hyatt has 100 rooms set aside at a discounted rate for active-duty servicemembers and qualifying retirees.
And across U.S. 40 in the Skyridge development, MIDA plans to debut equestrian programs this summer, though specific benefits for veterans haven’t yet been announced.
When MIDA was formed in 2007, state leaders said the agency’s original project was to replace the seven-room veterans’ lodge at Snowbasin that was closed ahead of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
In addition to the more than 6,000 units planned for Wasatch County and the Deer Valley resort expansion, MIDA is also constructing a lodge at Sundance for wounded veterans. It’s also developing 27 other sites around the state to form the Utah National Guard Project Area.
MIDA reports its plans in Wasatch County and at Hill Air Force Base are the largest economic development projects in the state right now.
The Wasatch County Council will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday. For an agenda and a link to attend online, visit the county website.
