Park City Speaker Series Kicks Off Tuesday

On Tuesday, the first of what is planned to be a quarterly speaker series launches with three local women who talk about resilience and how to move on from adversity.

The newly created Park City Speaker Series kicks off Tuesday night at the Jim Santy Auditorium. One of Tuesday’s speakers  is Park City resident and Olympian Holly Flanders. She says the evening starts at 6 o’clock when one by one, she as well as Carlie Hardy and Molly Jackson will tell their stories from Olympic ski racing to running a 100 mile race to losing a child…

“We’re going to be telling our stories and all of us have the real desire to tell our stories and inspire people to live better lives and my speech is about Be the Best. And I talk about experiences and lessons that I’ve learned from my ski racing days. It will showcase some of the talented people who have great stories and who will inspire other people in the community.”

Flanders who is a two-time Olympian and winner of three world cup ski races says that success didn’t come easy…

“When I was a young skier, it was commented that I skied like a bag of bolts. You know I heard that comment a little while later and just exemplifying kind of how I came from worst to become the best.”

Carly Hardy will speak about her stepping in to compete in the Wasatch 100 – a grueling 100-mile running race, when her husband suffered health issues and couldn’t race.

“He needed to have open heart surgery. So, she actually ran the Wasatch 100 for him. And her story of overcoming to run that race is just amazing.”

Molly Jackson will talk about the commodity of connection.

“She was able to overcome the death of her daughter. Her daughter choked on an apple several years ago in church parking lot here in Park City. And Molly was able to overcome that by connecting with people - by real, true, authentic connection. And she speaks about the importance of connection  in our lives and her story is also fantastic.”

The Park City Speaker Series is put on by the Park City Library. Each of the talks will run about 20 minutes. A Q and A will follow the presentation.
