A wildfire near Strawberry Reservoir has burned over 6,600 acres in 24 hours.
The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands say the “Dollar Ridge” fire spread quickly due to the steep terrain and high winds. The fire is 4.5 miles Southeast of Strawberry Reservoir.
Crews have used air tankers and helicopters have been used to cool the fire line, but the fire is too hot for ground crews to access. The smoke column is so large it can be seen from Park City and sightings have been reported as far away as Moab.
Some closures have been issued, access into Camelot on the Strawberry River road is closed. Access into Timber Canyon from all directions are closed.
Just under 10 structures are under evacuation in Beaver and Timber Canyon.
Pre-evacuations have been listed for all homes in Camelot, and downriver of Camelot. Also, all homes on Currant Creek off Hwy 40 and all homes on West Pinyon Ridge.
The fire started on private property and has spread. the division says they believe the fire was human caused and are investigating the incident. As of Monday, at noon, crews have no containment of the fire.
