Wasatch Back Still Dealing With Effects Of Fires In Utah County

The U.S. Forest Service has updates on the two fires Northeast of Kamas. The Cobblerest Fire is located along the north side of Mirror Lake Highway and was reported Saturday morning and has burned about 100 acres between the highway and Alexander Lake. The fire is at 25% containment. Over 80 personnel are working on that blaze, the cause of that fire is not yet known.

The lightning-caused Slate Fire is now 350 acres in size. This fire was reported on August 23rd and is about 6 miles northeast of Kamas. Officials report that neither fires pose risk to lives or property at this time.

Meanwhile the Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fires have been upgraded as the number one priority fire nationwide. The flames are located in the southern part of Utah county and have burned nearly 100,000 acres combined. The Pole Creek fire is 25% contained but the smoke is coming over the mountains and has caused the air quality to become unhealthy for some in Wasatch and Summit County. You can find more info about current air quality levels here.

The fires have caused evacuations in the Elk Ridge and Woodland Hills communities although no residential structures have been lost yet. U.S. Highway 6 and 89 are closed in sections near the flames, travelers are advised to look to UDOT for updates.
