Mail In Ballots Stacking Up For This Mid-Term Election

Summit County

This Mid Term election is the first for Utah using mail in ballots. It’s difficult to compare with 2014 when electronic voting was still the norm. Carolyn Murray has this:

Summit County Clerk, Kent Jones said they’ve received 13,500 ballots as of Monday. They sent out a total of 18,000 ballots. He said it’s potentially a very good voter turn-out for a mid-year election.

"Well, yeah. Four years ago, we were still voting on the machines. We’ve done by mail now for three years. As a comparison to two years ago, which was a presidential, we ended up with 88 percent return.  We had 21,000-thousand come back. On election night, we had 18,000-thousand, some odd. We could be up around, you know, 15 to 16,000, something like that.  So, that’s a pretty darn good return for mid-year. Because, I’ve seen mid-years on the old traditional way with polling places where you’re total would have probably been between 12 and 14,000 total votes."
