With the retirement of Summit County Assessor Steve Martin, the Summit County Democratic Party has put out a call for candidates wanting to serve in that position through January 1st of 2021.
Summit County Assessor Steve Martin announced his resignation earlier this month. He will remain on the job through the end of the month.
Candidates who are interested in serving the remainder of his unexpired term must send their resume to the Summit County Democratic Party.
The deputy assessor Travis Lewis will take over as interim department head May 1st. He will serve in that position until party members select a nominee at their May 11th party convention. That candidate will be presented to the county council for final approval.
The office would be open for election in November of next year.
Interested candidates must be citizens of the United States, registered voters in Summit County, and residents of the county for at least one year prior to election.
All candidates must also be Utah state-licensed or state-certified appraisers.
The County Assessor manages the office which is responsible for the appraisal of real property, including homes, condos, recreational parcels, vacant land, commercial, and industrial properties.
The office also assesses and collects taxes on business personal property, mobile homes and mobile offices.
