Lunchtime Learning Event Asks How To Make Change Stick?
Keeping New Year’s Resolutions is a challenge many people struggle with, so how do we make those changes stick?
The monthly lunchtime learning event at the PC MARC takes place this Wednesday at noon. The MARC is bringing Audrey Lee who advises you to forget your New Year’s Resolutions.
“I have a PhD. in exercise sports science, a master's degree in nutrition and really my fascination is to take the science and make it practical,” Lee explains. “Last time you attended my presentation I integrated that. This one is going to be a lot of hands on a lot of steps and strategies to help people make lasting change.”
Some stats show that 80 percent of people fail to keep their New Year’s Resolutions within the first two weeks of the new year. Lee breaks down how to make lasting change, starting with making specific goals.
“I'm going to get fit. I'm going to lose weight. But how are you going to do it,” Lee asked. “Are you looking at your lifestyle currently, and where are those pieces that you can make immediate change and where are the ones that you need some assistance? Those are the things is like give people a little bit more assistance to make bigger change.”
Lee reveals one important aspect is scheduling your steps to achieve your goals.
“You don't miss the doctor's appointments, you have reminders, you have those things. Schedule it just like that, and not only that get even more specific,” Lee continued. “We will talk about the specifics. I will be exercising Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I'm taking the noon class at the MARC. If I cannot make it, have a backup plan. OK I know things get busy. We're working, we have other responsibilities. Then I will take the noon class, OK if I can't make it, I'll do the 2:00 o'clock. Plan ahead.”
The monthly lunchtime learning events are every second Wednesday at noon at the PC MARC.
