The Summit County Sheriff’s Office reports they entered the new year with, among other things—a complaint about an online sex scam; and a significant injury after a brawl at a local bar.
The Sheriff’s incident report said that on December 30th, a complainant, a 28-year-old resident in Bear Hollow Village, said he had been in contact on a dating app with a person he thought was a woman. He had provided sexually-explicit videos, exposing his genitals and face.
He said later he received a call on an app from the person, who sounded like a male with a thick Middle Eastern accent. The suspect threatened to distribute the images unless the complainant sent him $600.
The complainant said he stopped communication, he deleted his Facebook account, and didn’t send any money. He said he didn’t believe at this time that the images were disseminated. The case was referred to investigators. However, Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright said it’s a challenge because suspects can use technology to mask their identities.
Meanwhile, on New Year’s Eve deputies got a call around 1 a.m. from a bar in the Pinebrook commercial area.
An employee at the bar reported that at about midnight, a patron pushed another customer at the bar. That set off a fight with multiple patrons.
The melee went on for about five minutes, before the staff broke up the fight and closed the bar.
Apparently, the person who was pushed was hit with a glass bottle during the fight. The employee took the victim, identified as a 49-year-old Park City resident, to Park City Hospital with a scalp laceration, which required nine staples.
The staff also had a credit card on file, for the patron who had evidently initiated the fight. He was described as about five feet tall and bald, Caucasian and in his mid-to-late 30’s.
Deputies also asked for video surveillance of the fight.
The report also says the scene had been cleaned up before deputies arrived, and no additional evidence was on hand. Lt. Wright said that isn’t advisable. He said that when an incident occurs with a significant injury, officers should be called immediately
