A Kaysville man, charged with assaulting two adolescent skiers at the Park City Mountain Resort last Christmas, made his first appearance in Third District Court last Monday .
It is the second recent case being prosecuted in Summit County of an adult assaulting a youngster on the slopes.
The defendant in court on Feb. 24th, 48-year-old Glen Irving Judd, is charged with two counts of Child Abuse Involving Physical Injury, a Class A Misdemeanor.
The charging documents say that two 11-year-old boys were skiing at the Resort on Dec. 26th. One of the boys had to stop quickly to avoid a skier and accidentally sprayed that person. Deputy County Prosecutor Blake Hills said Judd was not the other skier, but added he couldn’t give any other details.
Later that day, Judd allegedly saw the boys. He tackled one boy and pushed him multiple times. The other boy was also tackled and Judd reportedly punched him and hit him with a ski pole.
Judd’s attorney has entered a plea of Not Guilty. He will be back in court for a scheduling conference in early April.
Meanwhile, another defendant, 40-year-old Marcelo Pablo Jose Portomene a Park City resident, is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, March 2nd.
As we’ve reported, charging documents say an incident occurred on November 27th, the day before Thanksgiving, also at the Park City Resort.
A 17-year-old girl was skiing down a slope, then stopped to wait for friends.
At that point, she was approached by Portomene, who began yelling at her. He grabbed the victim’s neck, began squeezing, and shoved her to the ground while continuing to yell. The defendant had to be pulled off by a third party.
The charges don’t disclose if there was any connection between the individuals or a motivation for the assault.
The defendant was charged with one Count of Child Abuse Intentionally Inflicting Serious Injury. It is a second-degree felony.
