Art on the Trail to Showcase Artists' Craft Outside

Park CIty Summit County Arts Council

Starting this weekend, a local trail will be more colorful, and not just because the leaves are changing.

Art on the Trails is an event sponsored by the Park City Summit County Arts Council in partnership with Basin Recreation. The goal is to get people outside and flex their creative muscles.

Summit County residents are invited to create environmentally friendly artwork to place on McLeod Creek Trail between the Copper Moose Farmstand and Temple Har Shalom.

The arts council asks artists to use materials that will not hurt the environment. Executive Director Jocelyn Scudder explains:

“The artwork is somehow upcycled or created out of natural materials,” she said. “People could even come out and make flower garlands and hang them from the trees, or totem poles out of driftwood, leaf mandalas, birdhouses made of upcycled wood. Painted rocks, which I know Park City leadership is doing a lot of right now. It’s really to inspire creativity, get people out there, remember art on the trails, but this is a really safe way for people to be creative and create an interactive experience on the trails.”

Participants are encouraged to create and place the artwork on the trail between Sept. 5 through the 13th. And the artwork will remain in place for the entire month of September for everyone to enjoy. You can find more information on the Park City Summit County Arts Council website.
