Central Wasatch Commission to Hold Final Public Summit on Mountain Transportation

The Central Wasatch Commission will host a second and final Mountain Transportation System Summit on Friday, March 19 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The public is invited to attend the summit virtually at which the commissioners will continue to work towards a consensus recommendation for a regional mountain transportation system.

In 2019, the commission hosted an expert panel in which they discussed the major transportation alternatives under consideration through the initiative, including expansion of the mountain bus service, an aerial gondola system, and a rail system. Potential impacts on the watershed correlated with respective modes and alternatives were addressed.

The CWC held a public comment period just over a year ago and more than 1,200 comments were received from 366 individuals on the scope, goals, and attributes of a potential mountain transportation system.

This winter, the board has hosted four education sessions specific to each of the transportation modes outlined in the MTS draft alternatives report.

A draft matrix with staff evaluations and scores may be accessed here.

The intended outcome of the MTS is a consensus recommendation for transportation modes for a regional mountain transportation system serving the Wasatch Front and Back.
