Former Olympian Jimmy Shea's Sex Abuse Trial Set For August

Park City resident and Olympic gold medalist Jimmy Shea has been bound over for trial in August on sexual abuse charges.

Shea, who will be 53 years old on June 10, has been charged with one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and two counts of sexual battery. The charges allege that he abused a young female he knew on three occasions during the year 2020.

At a Third District Court preliminary hearing last week, Shea’s attorney, Rudy Bautista, entered Not Guilty pleas. Bautista told KPCW earlier this year that his client adamantly denies the charges and believes they are part of an ulterior motive.

During the hearing, Judge Richard Mrazik found that the county attorney’s office had met its burden and had shown probable cause based on statements by the alleged victim.

Known for getting all the facts right, as well as his distinctive sign-off, Rick covered Summit County meetings and issues for 35 years on KPCW. He now heads the Friday Film Review team.
