Utah Wildfire Info reports a wildfire has started near East Canyon State Park in Morgan County.
Initially reported just after 1pm, the East Canyon Fire fire is currently located along Highway 66, west of East Canyon Reservoir in Morgan County. Utah Fire reported an estimated 100 acres had been burned as of 2pm Tuesday, with winds currently pushing the fire up the canyon towards Summit County.
Power Lines and a number of ranch homes are currently threatened and several air and ground resources are currently responding. 10 homes in the area have been evacuated.
Highway 66 is currently closed, according to state officials, but the reservoir is still accessible by way of Highway 65 from Henefer and Salt Lake City.
Utah Fire says the blaze is showing “August-like” fire behavior. Utah Governor Spencer Cox declared a state of emergency because of drought conditions in May. Over 90% of Utah is considered to be experiencing extreme drought.
Due to hot and dry conditions, red flag warnings are in effect throughout the Wasatch Back until early Thursday.
KPCW will have more information as it becomes available.
