Park City Councilmember Jeremy Rubell seeks reelection

Park City Councilmember and Thaynes Canyon resident Jeremy Rubell has announced his bid for reelection.

Rubell was elected to the council in 2021 and has called Park City home for over 12 years.

He said he grew up visiting Park City and always wanted to settle in the area. Rubell now has two children and said there’s no other place he wants them to grow up.

He said he never had aspirations to be a politician, but has always wanted to help improve the community. He’s running for office again to continue the work the council has focused on over the last four years.

“Really proud of things we've done to really focus on our neighborhoods, to be able to promote the experience in town,” he said. “We've done a lot around the infrastructure, we've done a lot around transit services, and we're on the cusp of a number of major developments for the future of Park City.”

That includes plans surrounding the 5-acre Bonanza Park neighborhood. Rubell expressed frustration with the planning process and voted no on a “costly consultant” to plan the area in 2022. However, he said he wants to work with residents to turn Bonanza into a vibrant community-gathering space.

Rubell said his background in management consulting and executive leadership will help move Park City forward.

“I'm very pragmatic in my approach. I have no ties other than doing the best work that I can for the community and trying to represent the most voices out there as possible,” he said.

During his tenure, Rubell said he instituted an internal audit to improve fiscal and process accountability. He also said he helped launch infrastructure efforts to bury power lines and safeguard the water supply, as well as prioritize wildfire risk mitigation.

More recently, Rubell voted “no” on ranked choice voting in April. In February, Rubell had reservations about a bus rapid transit project as it would widen state Route 224 by 10 feet.

Rubell was also found guilty of disorderly conduct in August 2023 after an incident near his Thaynes Canyon home with a White Pine Nordic ski instructor. White Pine operates on Park City Municipal’s golf course during the winter under a concessionaire agreement approved by the council.

Along with city council candidates, Park City will elect a new mayor this year when Mayor Nann Worel’s time in office ends. Nearing the end of his first term, Rubell said the council is where he’s most comfortable.

“I feel like having a vote is the right place to be. I feel that's where I'm most effective,” he said.

Councilmember Tana Toly will also run for reelection and Councilmember Ryan Dickey has announced he’ll run for mayor in November. If he is not elected mayor, Dickey will remain on the council until his term ends in 2027.

The election filing period for candidates opens June 2 and runs through June 6.
