Park Silly Market returns to Old Town this weekend

Park Silly Sunday Market

The Park Silly Sunday Market returns to Park City Main Street for its 19th year Sunday.

It began as more of a flea market in 2007. Park Silly Executive Director Kate McChesney said they shut down lower Main Street to throw a party with live music and 35 vendors which brought about 500 people to Main Street.

Now, she said almost 200 vendors line Main Street and an average of 16,000 people attend the weekly market.

Park Silly opens Sunday, June 1. McChesney said this year will feature some new additions.

“We have 17 youth vendors joining us this summer, so we're excited for that. I think we have 20 kids in rotation busking along the street,” she said. “They'll start at the top of Main and kind of every couple of blocks, you know, you'll see another youth busker playing everything from the cello to the piano to the guitar.”

Park Silly opens at 10 a.m. with live music starting at noon.

The market will run 11 Sundays this summer. McChesney said June has five Sundays this year. It’s closed July 4 weekend and returns the second and third weekends in July before taking a five-week break.

Park Silly then returns Aug. 31 for four more Sundays with the final market on Sept. 21.

Drivers will pay $9 per hour to park in Old Town during the market.

McChesney encourages everyone to take public transit or ride a bike to Main Street.

“We have this amazing free bike valet. We've got two kids every Sunday from the Park City High School that will monitor the bike valet to make sure all of your bikes are safe,” she said. “They also have a bike pump and some tuning gear if you want to get a quick tune while you're there.”

Park City Transit buses will run every 20 minutes from the Richardson Flat park-and-ride.
