The Apres-Ski Concert Series in Park City is back - but it’ll be a bit pared down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The weekly concert series at the Corner Store Pub & Grill started up again last Thursday.

Max Doilney is the owner of the Corner Store. He said they’re taking all the necessary precautions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

“This will be a little more like the singer-songwriter kind of version, where, probably less dancing, right? Because you got to stay at your tables,” Doilney said. “In order for the largest number of people to be able to see or enjoy the music, we still got to remain COVID safe.”

He said seating is separated by fencing and barriers. They will also enforce masks and social distancing when people leave their tables.

Brian Richards is the executive director of Mountain Town Music, the  nonprofit that is programming the artists for the concert series.

During the summer, the organization was hosting a “Door to Door Tour,” which offered backyard concerts through donations. Richards said it was challenging to stop hosting widespread community events, but they were happy to offer music anywhere they could.

“We feel that music is such an essential element to people's wellbeing and health - especially in times of trauma,” Richards said. “So the fact that we were able to at least provide people with some semblance of normalcy during a time when most people's lives were turned upside down, was very important to us.”

He said the pandemic has highlighted the importance of live music.

“But what we realized throughout the course of this year is that one of the things that people miss is getting to see live music, gathering and being with one another,” he said.

In addition to the Apres-Ski Concert Series, the organization is also piloting “Mountain Town Cares,” which will bring pop-up music performances for essential workers.

Apres Ski Concerts are weekly on Thursdays through March.
