The Bureau of Land Management has announced that, due to reduced fire danger, it is rescinding its fire restrictions in 11 counties in northern Utah, including Summit and Wasatch Counties.
The order took effect as of Thursday. It will lift the prohibitions on campfires outside of established fire pits, smoking over dry vegetation, and cutting or welding of metal on public land.
The year-round restrictions are still in effect, such as the use of fireworks, or tracer and incendiary ammunition.
The press statement from the BLM said that wildfire danger still exists. They’re urging the public to follow the One Less Spark guidelines. Those are—completely put out campfires using a shovel and water, build campfires in areas free of vegetation, avoid driving through tall vegetation and make sure trailer chains are elevated above the road.
