Book Shares 100 Things On A Utah Bucket List

Jeremy Pugh

A bucket list of “things to do” in the Salt Lake City area has just been published by former Salt Lake Magazine Editor and author, Jeremy Pugh. It’s a second edition for the popular guide book, 100 Things to do in Salt Lake City Before You Die and it includes a handful of things in Wasatch and Summit counties.

Author Jeremy Pugh says he tested every activity he highlights in his book, 100 Thigs to do in Salt Lake City Before You Die.  He says the bob sled ride at the Olympic Park was for him a once in a lifetime experience.

“The original came out about three years ago and then my publisher asked me to do a second edition. So, I went back in and retooled it and found new things and updated some of the older things and took out things that-you know books are static things-so I took out things that are closed and what not.”

Pugh admits his title is a bit misleading because the it emphasizes the capital city, but he tells KPCW there are plenty of things he lists for those visiting or living in the Wasatch Back. He explains his criteria for making the 100 list.

“Of course, I covered a lot of topics. There’s food, there’s outdoor things, there's cultural activities, history, family friendly things.  So I was trying to find things for all of those kind of buckets, if you will, it's kind of a bucket list, and then you know it was just I've been writing about Utah and  the intermountai for about 20 years, so little bit of a kind of love letter to the place I love to live.”

He says it’s a good book to hand over to out of town guests.  It mentions the Midway Ice Castles, the Homestead Craters, the Heber Bowling Alley and strolling Park City’s historic Main Street.
Pugh says he grew up in Bountiful and he has a special love for things to do with the Great Salt Lake.

“It’s really an interesting and wonderful place. Certainly, there’s no other like it on earth. So, there’s a couple of things that have to do there. Obviously going to antelope island and that's a great way to kind of explore the lake and this is a great time of year to do it, actually. And, then also now there's a Hawaiian canoe paddling club. Utah has a lot of Pacific Islanders and there's a group of people who have relocated here from the Hawaiian Islands and they started and outrigger canoe paddling club out of the marina there.”

The paddling club welcomes people to join in on Saturday mornings. They meet at the Salt Lake Marina.
