Francis Frontier Days Returns

Francis City returns with its annual Labor Day weekend celebration, Francis Frontier Days.

Frontier Days was canceled last year due to the pandemic, like a host of other events in Utah and around the globe.

Mayor Byron Ames said the city was a little uncertain about 2021.

“We were planning for this year.    We were a little nervous because many businesses and individuals are still feeling the financial impact of last year.   We weren’t sure if we would be able to get adequate sponsors to put on the same type of event that we put on in the past, because it’s largely supported by sponsors.  It doesn’t pay for itself.  It’s certainly not a profit-making enterprise.  It’s something that we do for the residents, and try and break even with it every year.”

Mayor Ames said fortunately, a lot of sponsors turned up to support the city.

The festivities kick off on Thursday night, Sept. 2nd, with a concert featuring musician Brenn Hill along with humorist and cowboy poet Andy Nelson.   Tickets are $20 at the door.

On Friday, the highlight is a free showing at Francis City Park of “The Sandlot,” a 1993 baseball comedy.

Saturday night is rodeo time.    The mayor said a skydiving exhibition is also scheduled— it’s one of the “Thrive 125” events that local communities are holding throughout the state to commemorate the anniversary of Utah’s statehood.

On Monday, rodeo activity returns with a Junior Rodeo in the morning and an event called “Barebacks, Broncs and Bulls” in the afternoon.

Frontier Days activities will also include races, kids games, a bounce house and food vendors.
