The Park City Market Pharmacist Steve Hamilton, known and beloved by many Park City locals passed away on November 27 after a short illness. Since his passing, social media has exploded with an outpouring of condolences and grief for the loss to this community.
Steve Hamilton worked at the Park City Market the past 14 years. Mike Holm is the owner of the market and worked with him when they both were associated with the former Albertsons on Park Avenue. Holm says he was one of a kind and many of his customers had long-term, trusting relations with him in his role as a pharmacist.
“One that will never really be replaced. A person who cared so much about the community, his patients his loyal customers who came in. You know he is a guy that deeply had a heart for the business of pharmacy. He wanted people to get better and care for people and so I just don't know that you can ever replace somebody like that.”
Holms says the staff including his son, Greg who is a pharmacist at the market, was mentored by Hamilton.
“The staff there was all trained by Steve. In fact, my son is the other pharmacist. His name is Greg Holm and was mentored by Steve all the way through pharmacy school from I mean started out as a pharmacy technician was trained by Steve, and then was mentored by him through pharmacy school. So hopefully lots of Steve's good qualities, which he had so many have rubbed off on Greg. And just like I said though, it's going to be hard to replace a guy like Steve.”
Anyone who visited Hamilton’s pharmacy window is familiar with the celebration of animal pictures that are posted for the public to view. Holm says Hamilton celebrated so many small things in his life.
“Yeah, he really did love the animals in the area and took many pictures which are displayed by our pharmacy you know of moose, of the dogs and the cats of people that they had. He just had so many good situations that he liked to reflect on and comment on and talk to people about. That goes right into how he dealt with people also and cared for them the same way. He just had a good heart. He just had a big, big heart."
Holm says it’s been a tough year for his staff at the market with the loss of his long-time friend and bookkeeper Marla Harris who died from a heart attack in May while driving to work.
“And she slumped over and was hit head on into another vehicle. Luckily not hurting that other vehicle. Marla had passed away prior to the collision of those cars. There's two in one year. You don't replace either of those people. It’s just such a loss.”
Holm says he has had the same staff in the pharmacy for the 14 years he’s owned the market. Hamilton was out for a couple of months dealing with his illness, but he built a caring and professional department. Holm has confidence the team will continue to provide good service and guidance going forward.
