Main Street Hit and Run Involves Infant in the Car, Leads to DUI Arrest in Park City

A hit-and-run in Park City early Friday morning involved an infant in the car and led to a DUI arrest.

According to the Park City Police watch log, an officer witnessed a hit-and-run at 427 Main Street -- which is the building with the O’Shucks Bar & Grill and Park City Live -- shortly after midnight Friday morning.

Park City Police Captain Phil Kirk says the officer was able to identify a red Chrysler Sebring speeding away from the scene down Main Street.

“He got information on the plate number and description of the vehicle, relayed that to the other officers, and an officer stopped a vehicle matching that description on 224 at mile marker seven a few minutes after that and subsequently identified that as the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run collision with some damage on the vehicle,” Kirk says.

After stopping the vehicle, Kirk says officers discovered the driver -- a 33-year-old woman from Murray -- appeared to be intoxicated and had an infant in the car with her. Kirk said the arrest report did not specify whether the woman was the infant’s mother, but she and the infant were transported to the police department and a grandparent was contacted and took custody of the child. The driver was booked into jail on multiple charges.

“The driver was apparently under the influence, and after processing them for DUI, they ended up arresting that female driver, booked her into jail for DUI and hit-and-run,” says Kirk.

A new state law went into effect last month that prohibits the release of booking photos of anyone arrested or charged with a crime in Utah before they are convicted.
