Between storms with winds as fast as 70 mph and a series of events there’s plenty for mountain bikers to be aware of ahead of a week of riding Wasatch Back trails.
Mountain Trails Foundation Executive Director Charlie Sturgis reports that a series of storms has put deadfall back on trails. Sturgis has some request for those who come across branches and debris blocking trails.
“Shoot a photo of it and take a pin drop if you can,” Sturgis explained. “That will help us get to the places as fast as possible and easy as possible and also let’s us know how many people and what kind of equipment we might need. So, if you can photo and pin drop it. Of course, you can just send it to Charlie or Rick @mountaintrails.org and we’ll make sure we can get up there.”
Sturgis reminded listeners of some upcoming events including the Jupiter Peak Steeplechase on Saturday July 13.
“We will be using the Silver Spur trail all the way up until about noon,” Sturgis said. “If you can avoid it, that’s really handy. We are Obviously on the way up on Crescent Mine Grade up to the peak and down through Spiro. Head down on Silver Spur and Silver Spur all the way back to the finish area. So, it’s slightly different than previous years. We just hope you can think of a different place to be on that morning if you can.”
That same Saturday there’s an Archery Event taking place at the Canyons.
“This is apparently a huge event,” Sturgis continued. “You will have people out in hunting gear and kind of roaming the woods and shooting target. They will be crossing Mid Mountain, but they won't be shooting across Mid Mountain. You will see some people dressed like hunters or equipped with bows and arrows on that Saturday that could be up on mid-mountain trail area.”
