One Dead, Five Injured After Car Crash Near Heber City

Utah DPS

A man died in a car accident Sunday afternoon just south of Heber City.

The accident on Highway 189 involved three cars, killing one person and leaving five others with non-life-threatening injuries.

Law enforcement officials said they had not yet identified the man’s name but believed him to have been around 40 years old.

All five of those injured were hospitalized.

The accident happened near the intersection of state Route 189 and 3000 Street, just south of the Heber Valley Airport. The crash happened about a mile south of where three Heber City women died in a car accident June 7.

The man who died was driving a gray GMC pickup truck southbound toward Charleston when he crossed into oncoming traffic. His truck “side-swiped a Ford pickup and then hit a Volvo SUV head on,” according to a report from the Utah Department of Public Safety.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for UDPS said it was still unknown why his truck crossed over.

The accident happened at about 3:30 p.m. Utah Highway Patrol closed the highway road temporarily and diverted traffic through Midway and Charleston.
