Park City High School Alum Makes Record Speedskating Time

John Kleba

A Park City High School alum is making record times in U.S. speedskating.

Casey Dawson set an unofficial record at a time trial on Saturday. His time, just over 3.37, on men's 3000m speedskating, is almost a full second faster than the previous U.S. record set in 2005.

Dawson graduated from Park City High School in 2019. Youth Sports Alliance Executive Director Emily Fisher said he got his start with their afterschool activities.

"We are very excited for Casey Dawson, he started his speed skating journey with Youth Sports Alliance," Fisher said. "He tried speedskating for the first time in our Get Out and Play program, and then joined the Park City's speedskating club, and then the US team. And now he's setting US National records and hopefully on his way to bigger and better things."

Dawson was about a second away from breaking the world record, which was set in 2005 by a Norwegian speedskater.

U.S. Speedskating Long Track Championships are this weekend, where Dawson can qualify for official race times.
