Park City Institute has announced their 10-show lineup for the seasons Main Stage performances.
The 2019-2020 Main Stage Season begins on Saturday December 14th with National Geographic Live! Coral Kingdoms and Empires of Ice. Institute Director Teri Orr says the show is one of three from National Geographic Live, a popular program the Institute added last year.
“Last year was the first year that Nat Geo allowed small performing arts centers to have the opportunity to have these events,” Orr continued. “They had always been down in giant kind of colosseum things. This went so well last year we added one this year. We're going to open with thing called “coral kingdoms and empires of ice” and it is a couple an it is underwater and pretty fabulous. In February we have a second one which is called “nature roars back” it's Bob Poole and he's an amazing photographer and a lot of his stuff takes place in Africa. We conclude with Nizar Ibrahim and he talks about Dinosaur hunting.”
Another family friendly show will be Piff the Magic Dragon on Sunday, December 22nd. Additional shows include musicians and dance and ballet companies. As well as Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Eli Saslow and New York Times Bestselling Author Stephanie Land
“Stephanie Land wrote the book “Maid”,” Orr said. “She will be talking about a number of issues that relate to her life. It's a nonfiction book and it's being made into a movie I think Netflix, with John Wells producing it. She will be talking about domestic violence and homelessness and poverty and we will be doing that thing that we've done a couple of times. We’ll have her work with the students, do student outreach and then the following day we'll have community leaders in. Gathering and talk about how those issues play out in our community and what else we can do.”
Traditionally the Park City Institute has had a show on New Years Eve. Board member Rachel Alday explains why the board decided to do away with the show this year.
“I think it's been one that maybe hasn't been getting the sales that we would hope it would,” Alday explained. “So, we're just trying to move forward and see how it goes this year without a show on that evening.”
