Rx Burn Scheduled In Uintas

US Forest Service

The US Forest Service has announced a plan for a prescription burn in the Uintas.

In a statement the U.S. Forest Service announced that the Upper Provo prescribed burn will take place starting Saturday October 27th and will run the whole month of November, ending on the 30th.

The 6,000 acre burn area will be approximately 10 miles east of Kamas and on the northeast side of Mirror Lake Highway, between Norway Flats road on the east and Upper Setting road on the west.

The burns purpose is to reduce the risk of wildfire, promote regeneration and improve wildlife habitat and forest health. The forest service that the fires will only occur when a specific set of conditions are met, including air, soil and vegetation moisture levels, temperature, wind factors as well as other carefully measured conditions. A helicopter will be used to start the fire with crews on hand while the fire burns. The forest service says smoke may be visible throughout the month.
