Summit County State Rep Will Not Run For Re-Election After Accepting Role In Governor's Cabinet

Utah House of Representatives

As we’ve reported, Logan Wilde, a Republican who represents part of Summit County in the state legislature, is stepping down to take a role in the Governor’s office.

Rep. Logan Wilde has represented a part of Summit County since 2017. He had planned to run for re-election this year, however he says his new appointment as the Commissioner for the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food changed that.

"I have to drop out of the race,” Wilde explained. “I cannot be a cabinet member and also in the legislature, that goes against the state constitution.”

Wilde can’t represent District 53 once the Utah Senate confirms his appointment.

"That’ll happen sometime in May is what I’ve been told,” Wilde said. “The senate convenes during interim so that they can get appointments done.”

Republican delegates will pick someone to represent the district for the remainder of the calendar year at the state convention. The conventions is currently scheduled for April 25th.

Voters will elect a new representative in November.  Kera Birkeland of Morgan is running as a Republican. The Democratic party candidate is Cheryl Butler of Park City.
