KPCW

As COVID-19 numbers in Utah continue on a downward trend, the state saw a slight increase in cases week over week on Sunday.

The Utah Department of Health announced 389 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, which is about 15 more cases than the state saw at the same time last week.

In the Wasatch Back, Summit County’s case count was down week over week, the county reported seven new cases Sunday. Last week, Summit saw 12.

Wasatch County reported five new cases, significantly up from last Sunday when the county saw one.

There were 4,704 people tested for the first time statewide, with around 8,316 total tests administered.

On average 3.5% of “tests over tests” are coming back positive, while the average percent positivity for “people over people” is 7%.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 13 new deaths, but noted that nine of the deaths happened before March 1. To date, 2,114 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including 11 from Summit County and 21 from Wasatch County.

The department also reported 21 new hospitalizations. There are 142 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Around 72% of all referral center ICU beds are in use. Utah has not been above the 85% threshold where ICUs are considered to be effectively full since early February.

There were 14,628 people vaccinated for COVID-19 since Saturday, bringing the total number to 1,304,319 doses administered.

Summit County has administered 26,849 total vaccines and Wasatch has given out 14,121 doses. Both counties are registering to vaccinate residents 16 years or older.
