Utah has surpassed 1,000 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The state department of health reported over 20 new COVID-19 deaths for the third day in a row. The 21 new deaths Thursday bring the total to 1,016 in the state since the start of the pandemic.

The department also announced just over 3,400 new cases on Thursday, which is lower than last Thursday when the state reported more than 3,940 new cases.

Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is currently 16.5%, and just over 27% of tests are coming back positive on average in Wasatch County.

The percent for positive test results on Thursday in the state is about 22%. The statewide 7-day rolling average is just over 26% which is down from Wednesday’s percentage.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 82 new hospitalizations Thursday. There are 554 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. And almost 94% of referral center ICU beds are currently in use.

26 counties in the state — including Summit and Wasatch — are in the high risk level of Utah’s COVID-19 transmission index. There have been alterations to the original guidelines; now masks are mandated throughout the state, and limits on social gathers are suggested not required.
