The South Summit cities of Oakley and Kamas haven’t decided yet about holding fireworks for their traditional summer events.
Oakley City’s nationally famous Fourth of July Rodeo is just a few weeks away. Mayor Wade Woolstenhulme told KPCW that they are still in a wait-and-see posture about a fireworks show.
“We have not cancelled the fireworks yet. But we have made arrangements for storage of the fireworks for a later date if we determine that we need to cancel em. We want to just wait and see what the weather does in the next couple weeks before we rush to a decision.”
Mayor Woolstenhulme said they will likely make a decision by the end of next week.
The Oakley Council held a special meeting on Wednesday, to deal with rodeo planning items they haven’t had time for in their regular agendas.
“We just reviewed every Council Member’s assignments, things that they’re in charge of, and made sure that everybody had what they needed, and everything was gonna go smoothly.”
The Mayor said they are conducting a normal rodeo this year with no restrictions. The rodeo is planned for July 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and the 5th, with a parade, patriotic program and Junior Rodeo also set on the 5th.
Oakley’s website says they’re sold out of everything but single tickets.
Kamas City’s annual event, Fiesta Days, is scheduled later in July. Mayor Matt McCormick told a meeting of the Council of Governments, earlier this week, that they’re following Oakley’s lead.
“Our celebration’s far enough out, I kinda want to wait and see before we cancel. But at the same time, we’re gonna follow good advice and follow good direction. And so when that comes, we don’t intend to go against what makes sense and what’s reasonable.”
